This image shows the Sun during a solar eclipse on May 20, 2012. This partial eclipse shows the Sun at the beginning of an annular eclipse. The Moon was near its apogee in its orbit, and as a result, the apparent size of the Moon was smaller than the apparent size of the Sun so that a bright ring of the Sun remained showing around the outline of the Moon during maximum eclipse.
This image was taken with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel SLR camera using a Cannon EF 70-300mm zoom lens with a Baader solar film filter.
